A little stress packs more action into your life. Without it life could be a little less exciting. Stress puts us on your toes and makes you perform better. It gives us the reason to stick and fight or the self protection as in flight. So when do we need stress management skills?

While little stress is good for performance, constant stress and any stress for that matter that we have the inability to cope with will always have a negative effect on our mental and physical health. If stress is allowed to continue unabated, it will result to a lot of reactions in the body that is generally unhealthy. Too much stress could be overwhelming. So when is too much stress too much?

Different people react to things differently for some a little dose of stress could excite a reaction that may not bother other people much. Adrenaline junkies and top performers actually look forward to having stresses in their lives once in a while. At any rate, the ability to handle stress is always good so that stress does not become a liability and a factor for our inability to perform. There are indicators though that tells us that a person is having too much and not coping successfully with stress.

Stress management skills are already needed when a person undergoing the experience is:
•    Being irritable, edgy and snappish
•    There is lack luster performance on things that the persons finds enjoyment before
•    Health problems including sleeping issues and indigestion
•    Chronic fatigue

These signs when ignored could result to bigger problems in terms of health and relationships both in the workplace and at home.  It could bring down productivity not only on the person suffering stress related problems but on acquaintances as well.

Because everyone reacts differently to stress, its warnings could escape ordinary observers and may even be interpreted differently. It is then very important that a closer attention is given to the individual who is showing the signs. For this the best approach is to get in touch with ourselves on how we in turn respond to being overstressed so that it is managed before it gets too much for the person. A good start at helping the person manage the stress is to talk openly about it if that does not work, at least to create a calmer environment. It is also good to seek professional advice. Stress may be common but it could have adverse effects if not dealt with effectively soon.
