People can easily fall into small shattered pieces when undergoing stress, whether in serious amounts or in bite size quantities. You cannot control the amount of stress that comes to you but what you can manage is the amount of stress you allow to penetrate and destroy you. Here are some alternatives that you could make use of so that when you wake up to a morning full of stress, you can still find a beautiful reflection when you look in the mirror at the end of the day.

Breathe
Your lungs were made for something called breathing, you can try it sometime. One of the most damaging mistakes you can do to them is not to use them. Many people don’t, that is why they have irregular breathing that brings with it a host of problems. If you can practice full breathing everyday, you will not only feel relieved from within but you will also eliminate the physical stress improper breathing can cause.

Smile
When you smile, you feel a sudden relaxation in your face muscles as well as a sudden sense of brightness from everything around you. Further, according to clinical science, smiling sends nerve impulses to the emotional center of the brain which then triggers a homeostatic state in your brain chemicals, causing you to feel more calm and relaxed. So make smiling a habit.

Visualize
Visualize good things. All things pass. If they don’t seem like they do then maybe you are stuck with several bad weeks in a row. But then again, all troubles do end. So visualize the end of your troubles.

Evaluate
Not all stressors are good, yes, but not all of them are bad either. Try to assess the levels of stress you undergo each time then you will realize that you are overreacting to most of them. If you could assign a scale for each stressor you feel, you would then understand how you can better handle them.

Fight
Don’t get that long face when you are under stress. Don’t act like you don’t deserve it. Yes, maybe sometimes you don’t deserve unnecessary amounts of stress but there are also times that you need them. Otherwise, you would be a sedentary creature. So whenever you feel the urge to complain about what you are going through, try to fight the urge and give it a wicked smile which says something between the lines; this time, you will lose against me”, pertaining to stress of course.

By the way, a genius once said “take things by their smooth handle” once, so just listen to the man. He was most likely right when he meant “take it easy”.
