In our modern era, if you want to play Rollerblading, you just simply go to the nearest skating center, rent pair of shoes with rollers and you are now ready for fun but in the older days, it wasnt an easy to have fun.

Actually, in 1760, the first inventor of roller skate is not patented because of the tragic accident into an expensive mirror for a party in London by Joseph Merlin (a violinist). And because of that experience, he never interested again of roller skate but the next inventors had produced same models that can be use to imitate the skating blade.

James Plimton of Massachusetts who first invented a roller skate that could turn and curve in 1863 and after three years he opened a skating club in New York so that the gentlemen will impressed the ladies doing fancy techniques, steps and turns. And within twenty years, roller skating became famous as a popular pastime for all ages of any gender and began to have different skating contests such as roller polo, dance and figure skating.

Just before the start of WWII in 1937, a group of skating rink owners formed an association to promote roller skating headed by Fred Freeman. They are called RSROA (Roller Skating Rink Operators Association).

George Pyche, the Skateland building owner has been a Vice President of RSROA. Also for about 10 years, he was the Chairman of the New England Chapter of the RSROA and for the next few years as Chairman of the Northeast Region Chapter of the RSROA. The Vice President of the New England Chapter for a year was Mary Pyche and a Secretary of the said chapter for almost 12 years. Mary Pyche was also voted Secretary of the Northeast Region Chapter of RSROA.

The RSROA is presently known as the RSA (Roller Skating Association). They enjoyed steady business and fun growth of skating in 1940s, 50s and 60s. They business became known as a family activity until today.

There was a big improvement in roller skating rinks in the 1970s. It is easier to skate because the skating floors had plastic coatings. Roller skate materials change it into plastic skate wheels for smooth, easy and safe to use as a standard use in the rink. Also another innovation, the music and lighting at skating centers was been modernized. Five years after, exactly 112 years after Plimptons invention, the RSA helped establish the National Roller Skating Week for everyone to celebrate and having fun and well fit of todays roller skating.

Rollerblading is the easiest and inexpensive entertainment for all individual of any age make it a habit to develop friendships, meet your future couple, just playing games and enjoying the music in your nearest skating center.
