One day, you were walking down the street and you stoop down to tie your shoelaces. And you noticed this very shiny and pretty rock. Why not start rock collecting? Stones and small pieces of rocks are everywhere. Different places have their own distinct rocks. So you can even collect rocks whenever you go away for a vacation.

Everybody can enjoy rock collection. This hobby has captivated and has been enjoyed by children and adults alike. Rock collecting is an interesting, educational and entertaining hobby. Rock collectors learn a lot about rocks and geology. Collected rocks and items can always be showcased to share it, like displaying it through a rock garden or in a glass case.

Some rock collectors would use the big rocks they have in their home gardens as part of the pathway or outline of the garden. While small rocks were added in window sills and door frames. With these ways, collectors are able to reminisce, showcase and enjoy their collection in an entirely different experience.

Another good thing to remember about this hobby is that every geographical location has its distinct rock. For example, in American Midwest, sedimentary rocks are abundant. While metaphoric and igneous rocks are less common. In the Appalachians, metaphoric rocks like gneiss and schist are easier to find. To keep these rocks is to preserve the travel experience and memories.

A good rock collection can be large or small depending on the intent or what the owner likes. A collection can always be improved since new items are always being added into to the list and by removing the poor rocks that were collected.

At first, rocks and stones collected may not always be the best ones. But as the collector becomes more familiar with the method of collecting and also with geology, the collection would eventually consist better ones until it would become the complete collection of igneous, sedimentary and metaphoric rocks possible to collect.

The collector would later take on his own direction. There would be collectors who are fascinated with a specific rock type and focus the collection there. There are three different types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous and metaphoric rocks. Igneous rocks are formed by volcanic activity, while sedimentary rocks are sand or silt pressed by water and eventually became solid. Metaphoric rocks, meanwhile are rocks changed by intense heat and pressure.

Some collectors direct their collection to minerals, gems and crystals. Pure minerals are not relay like rocks but they were also included in the collection. Some minerals that are frequently included in the collection are things like pyrite and quartzite.

Rocks are always changing. Earth and nature are in a never-ending cycle of change and evolution. This is why rock collecting would never be always the same. There would always be a different rock to collect every time.
