Although basically everybody can try their hand in rock collecting, there are only a few who continue with the project and become true-blue collectors. One of the reasons why some survive and the others blow out of steam is not because of the difficulties that they encounter but how they respond to these difficulties. Sometimes, there are personality types that are more suited to certain tasks and to become successful in it, you have got to achieve the right fit.

Do you have what it takes to create and build a really mean rock collection? Read on and find out if you are suited to the hobby or are you better off with finding another project to devote your time in.

1. Interest
This is the most important characteristic that a rock collector should have. Actually when you really look at it, it’s not actually a personality trait but just the same, the amount of interest of a person to rock collecting will determine and affect other personality traits such as determination and patience. If a person is not really interested in a task, he or she will not be expensing so much energy on it. Without the passion to create the best collection, oftentimes, the hobby will just be discontinued and replaced by another one.

2. Curiosity
People who are curious and those who love examining stuff will thrive well in this kind of project because rock collecting necessitate a lot of examination. There are hundreds maybe even thousands of rock types and you must really look at each one closely in order to determine which your collection should have.

3. Outdoorsy
Rocks can be found outside, along riverbanks and in the middle of the forests. Only few or mayhap even none can be found in cities and urbanized areas. If you are not the type to go out and do mountain climbing or hiking or camping then rock collecting is not for you. Rock collectors should be able to go out there and look for rock specimens that they can add to their collection.

4. Diligent
Rock collecting requires a lot of patience and diligence. It is not easy to find rocks that you can add to your collection. Sometimes you really have to go to specific location in order to get a sample. With that you need patience as you try to build your collection.
